Dr Howard Elementary School PTA - About the PTA

About PTA

The Dr. Howard Parent-Teacher Association is open to parents and guardians of Dr. Howard students and to Dr. Howard administration, teachers, and staff. Together we strive to advocate for Dr. Howard students, to support the educational mission of Dr. Howard School, and to strengthen the bonds of our Dr. Howard community.

Dr. Howard’s PTA is active throughout the year and has something for everyone at our school. Every year, we provide school T-shirts, directories, and yearbooks to all students and staff, free of charge. The funds we raise also go toward things like mini-grants of up to $250 each, which teachers use for classroom needs they would otherwise pay out of pocket. Our Scholastic Book Fair proceeds benefit the classrooms and the school library, and provide every student with a free book during the school-wide Reading Incentive Program. Our programming initiatives include new after-school clubs, such as Spanish, as well as a Health and Wellness Fair to complement our fall Walk-a-Thon fundraiser. Evening events such as the Back-to-School Picnic and a Pizza and Movie Night help students and families build friendships within our community.

The mission of PTA is to serve children -- ALL of our children. To do that, we need to hear the voices of those who know and love them best. PTA works very hard to do what’s best for everyone, but to best serve the child you love, PTA needs to hear from you! All ideas are valued, and all help is needed. There are as many ways to be involved as there are parents at Dr. Howard, from scooping ice cream to coordinating volunteers. We are sure there is something for you!

To get involved, consider becoming a member of PTA. Dues are only $7 per person, or $13 per couple, a portion of which goes toward membership in Illinois PTA, a statewide advocacy organization. Whether you decide to join or not, you are welcome to attend and participate in our meetings, usually held at 6:00 p.m. the 2nd Thursday of each month in the school library. To find out what’s going on at school, read our newsletter, The Weekly Eagle, distributed at school every Friday and archived here. Get up-to-date announcements from our listserve.
